CONGRATULATIONS!
You’ve made a
confession of faith that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and you’ve been
baptized into Christ for the forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy
Spirit. You have begun a new life, and there are a number of practices which
can help you grow in your Christian life and faithfulness to God.
1. Attend weekly
worship celebrations.
Making a habit of
attending worship celebration every Sunday morning is very important to the new
Christian. Here you can join with other Christians singing praises to God,
taking communion and hearing the Word of God through media and preaching. It
gives you a chance to learn more about being a Christian, which helps you live
a happier life and make lifelong friends.
2. Take the classes
taught by our pastor.
These classes are
designed to help the new Christian begin his spiritual journey. You will learn
what your spiritual gifts are and how to use them.
3. Get involved in a
Gel Group.
Crosspointe has Gel
Groups for everyone. Here you have the opportunity to look more deeply at the
Bible and what it has to say about our everyday lives. You also have the
opportunity to build friendships with other Christians in a more intimate
atmosphere. Your relationships with other Christians will encourage you through
the week as well as on Sundays. Understanding that other people face the same
fears and temptations that you do, helps you grow stronger.
4. Develop a
consistent time of personal Bible reading and prayer.
Daily exposure to
the Bible is one of the best ways to grow as a Christian. We become more like
the things to which we are exposed. Likewise, prayer allows us to come into the
presence of God to praise Him, to thank Him for blessings, and to ask for help
in the big and small challenges we face in life. God wants us to listen to Him,
but He also wants to hear from us as well.
5. Get involved in
the ministry of the church.
Part of living the
Christian life means serving and ministering to others. Crosspointe has several
areas of ministry. It is important to plug into a ministry so that you can
begin to serve the Lord using the gifts and interests that He has given you.
God can work through you to bring more people to Christ and to meet the needs
of those who are in the church as well as the world around us.
6. Develop your
personal story.
Sometimes the most
powerful way to bring others to Christ is to tell them the story of how and why
you became a Christian. This should include the process that brought you to
Christ, and the ways in which you have seen Christ move and change you since
your conversion. Your story does not have to be dramatic. It is simply a
recounting of what Jesus has done in your life. Thinking about this ahead of
time will prepare you to share your faith with others when the opportunities
arise.
